About

We are safe2pee dot org, a collective of like-minded activists offering resources to find safe places to pee and activism to promote gender free public restrooms.

Our history: Back in late 2005/early 2006 some queer activists with lot of extra days off, and roaming corners of san francisco by bicycle, we found ourselves in need of safe (gender neutral) places to pee. We remembered projects such as PISSR and the Boston Relief Map, but were not able to contact the folks behind them and we thought that to really grow make this sort of project grow it’d have to be more automated. …. and so the idea occurred to create a fun, new dynamic gender neutral bathroom resource! The project grew as the community added hundreds of bathrooms and others joined, wanting to work to add more features and improve the site. A small collective now collaborates on the web site.

As of 2014 a new group is picking up where we left off and continues  to develop safe2pee.

  1. I found one of your fliers at Kinko’s here in San Francisco very randomly about a month ago. It just so happens that the second issue of our zine is going to be all about Public Restrooms. Our zine is very diverse and we try to cover all of the angles on our subjects.

I read over your flier and stopped by the site. I really like what you guys are doing and would love to feature your organization in our next issue. Would your organization be interested in a feature for our next issue?

Our first issue is being distributed all over the city. We called it the MUNI issue. We have been getting a pretty good repsonse so far. We are also currently onsale in four different independent bookstores here in the city as well. If you would like, I can send you a copy of the first issue so you can check us out.

The deadline for submissions and such for the second issue is June 8th. Thanks for your time! Hopefully we can work together.

    I’m confused.
How does allowing both men and women in the same room qualify as ‘safe’ to pee? This ‘About’ statement is sorely lacking.

    Hi,
Great site. I might have overlooked it, but if not, please add a contact form on your site so that people have a way to contact you without leaving messages in a public message area.
    Thanks,
    Michael
